Susanna Porte
holds a B.Mus. in Cello Performance from Oberlin Conservatory, a B.A. with Honors in Russian from Oberlin College, an M.A. in Russian Literature from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Teaching Certificate in Music from Carnegie Mellon University. For over 30 years she has performed in orchestras and classical chamber groups around her hometown of Boston and the San Francisco Bay Area. Susanna was a co-founder (with fellow Obie Rebecca Thornblade) of the Boston-based Cello Chix, an electric cello-and-drums band that featured her original arrangements of rock and pop tunes. She has toured with The Magnetic Fields, and currently subs with Le Jazz Hot and Duo Gadjo. Since March 2020 Susanna has hosted over 122 porch & driveway concerts, showcasing local classical and jazz musicians and bringing the community together safely during the pandemic. She divides her time between free-lancing as a cellist, music arranging, proofreading, and engaging in environmental activism.
She has studied with David Finch, Andor Toth, Jr., Mark Summer, Mads Tolling, Eugene Friesen and Evan Price.
